I'm Gonna Pop Some Tags...

We've all heard the song...
I'm gonna pop some tags
Only got $20 in my pocket
I I I'm hunting, looking for a come- up
This is ****** awesome!
(For more see the bottom of this post)

How many times did I listen to Macklemore's Thrift Shop and laugh because it seemed so silly?  I've honestly lost count!  But let's be honest it's smart for everyone to be thrifty and save money!  Thanks to people being more aware of that than ever, thrifting seems to be picking up steam across the country.  There are so many ways to be a smart shopper and save, it's not just Good Will and Salvation Army anymore!

I've always been a big fan of yard/tag/garage sales!  I love having them, I love going to them- you never know what little treasures you might find and it's awesome to make money off of the old stuff that's been laying around your house.

There are lots of local, small town thrift shops and consignment shops in almost every town you go to.  Just in a 10 mile radius of my home there are at least 5 that I can think of off the top of my head.  What's great is that many of them are actually raising money for a good cause.  We have Laurel's Loft, which benefits the local women's shelter and Impact, which raises money to feed the hungry and house the homeless.  There is nothing better than knowing your shopping is going to a good cause.

It's even jumped online!  We all know about craigslist and ebay but have you ever thought to thrift through facebook?  Sure we've seen friends post that they're giving things away but it's so much more now.  Now they actually have groups- by town, county, general area for people swapping or thrifting.  Look for local mommy or swap groups and you'll find tons of people posting what they have and either swapping, giving it away, or selling it at a major discount.

As I've mentioned before, my mom and I have really gotten into thrifting.  When she found out we were trying to have a baby she started combing through the local shops for things I might be able to use and found nearly everything I would need for baby and spent maybe $150 total!  Imagine $150 for a high chair, stroller, pack n play, toys, clothes, moses basket, bouncy seat, and more that I know I'm forgetting.  There are so many options that you'd almost be a fool to shop at a regular store.  Almost everything you find in these places is clean and in good, working condition.  You can't beat it!

Here are some of my favorite recent thrifty finds:

 Are you a thrifter?
What are some of the favorite things that you've found?

And now for your viewing pleasure:

  1. Great finds! I love that antique buffet. I definitely need to start thrifting/hitting up more garage sales.

    1. The best part is the store near us has different colored tags and each week a different color is 1/2 price. That week yellow was on sale and it was a yellow tag! I can't tell you the thrill I get from things like that!

  3. The best thing I've found: A box of loose silverware for $8.00 that turned out to be English silver from 1798, a complete service for twelve. Let me tell you, I was doing a happy dance that day.
